The Badminton European Championships 2022, held in Madrid, concluded on Saturday 30th April 2022.
It saw Carolina Marin take a sixth consecutive European Championships title in the women’s singles. What made it even more impressive is was the fact this was Marin’s comeback following another career-threatening knee injury.

Men’s Singles
The men’s singles final was contested by two Danes, Viktor Axelsen and Anders Antonsen. The match between the two however failed to live up to the billing with Axelsen winning 21-17, 21-15.
Axelsen said after the game
It wasn’t the most beautiful game. It was hard to control the shuttle and produce a high quality. I didn’t use too much energy throughout the tournament, but it was about being able to win.
Viktor Axelsen
Meanwhile a frustrated Anders Antonsen spoke after the match saying
I am really disappointed. I could not get my game going, too many mistakes and no consistency.
Anders Antonsen
Viktor is the number one player in the badminton rankings for a reason, he wins the big tournaments.
He won the All England Open 2022 Badminton Championships back in March beating Indian player Lakshya Sen.

Final Thought – Badminton’s European Championships 2022
Mark Lamsfuss claimed two gold’s while his mixed doubles partner Lohau took home gold and silver medals took home a gold and silver.
The Stovea sisters continue their recent good form while it was business as usual for Viktor. Those I think the story of this particular tournament must be Carolina Marin’s amazing return.
