Badminton tournaments have been coming frequently of late so lets find out which players have benefited the most. It is time to check in on the latest BWF Badminton World Rankings!
Viktor Axelsen is on top spot with Japan’s Kento Momota at number two and Anders Antonsen is at three in the rankings. Meanwhile England’s highest ranked men’s player is Toby Penty at number 53.
In the women’s singles Akane Yamaguchi of Japan takes the number one spot with Tai Tzu Ying dropping to number two. An Se Young at number 3 with Chen Yu Fei taking the number 4 spot. Meanwhile Carolina Marin remains at number five after returning from injury. Scotland’s Kirsty Gilmour is at number 17 but England currently don’t have any player in the top 100.
England’s top men’s doubles pair Marcus Ellis / Chris Langridge are ranked at number 16 despite them no longer competing. Meanwhile their fellow countryman Ben Lane / Sean Vendy are at 18.
Meanwhile in the women’s doubles England’s highest pairing are Chloe Birch / Lauren Smith at 14. Looking at some of the other well know pairs see’s the Netherlands pairing of Selena Piek / Cheryl Seinen at number 22 and Australia’s Gronya Somerville / Setyana Mapasa at number 34. Scotland’s Julie Macpherson / Ciara Torrance are at 47.
The mixed doubles is England’s strongest event, with Marcus Ellis / Lauren Smith regaining the top 10 status at number ten. Meanwhile Callum Hemming / Jessica Pugh are at 46.
Even after the recent announcement of the Adcock’s retirement from the sport they are still ranked 19th in the world.
German pair Mark Lamsfuss / Isabel Lohau stay at number 12 while Scottish pair Adam Hall / Julie MacPherson move up to 40.

The best badminton countries are (in no order) Japan, China, Denmark & India.
Is badminton popular in USA?
Yes and no. It is fair to say quite a lot of people regularly play badminton in the USA, in 2008 the figure was believed to be around 1.3 million players. However it’s not generally perceived as a main sport such as tennis and is seen by many as more of an amateur sport.
