Peter Gade – A Badminton Legend

I’m taking a look at some of the best known and most talented players from past and present in a new feature, Famous Badminton Players. So for the first in the series we will take a look at the legend that is Peter Gade.
Born 14th December 1976 in Denmark, he was one of the most skillful and famous badminton players to have graced the sport. Anyone that that has even loosely followed the professional side of badminton will be instantly familiar him.
He had a unique style that came with a trademark shot which has since become legendary within the game. The fact is he dominated the men’s singles game from 1998 into the 2000’s winning 22 grand prix titles says it all. He represented his country (Demark) at four Olympics, 2000, 2004, 2008 & 2012.
However despite being one of the best badminton players he never won a gold medal. In fact the best he achieved was a place in the quarter finals.
In December 2012 Gade played in a farewell exhibition match in Copenhagen against Lin Dan, considered by many to be the greatest player of all time. In fact the match went well for Gade meaning he went out on a high beating Lin Dan and thus ending a truly great career.
Gade is indeed one of the most famous badminton players and was a player whose style of play helped change the game for the better.

Conclusion – Famous Badminton Men’s Players: Peter Gade
That was the great and famous badminton player Peter Gade showing off his immense talent and skills. Peter was always one of my favourite players to watch and made me want to play the sport. Plus he had that trademark trick shot that destroyed opponents!

He drove the sport on making it more entertaining and helped open it up to a wider audience. More money came into the game with bigger sponsors becoming more interested due to the large interest in countries such as India, China and South Korea.
There are many great players around today but I always enjoyed watching Peter play our great game / sport.
Gade was one of those players whose skills / techniques I tried to copy as suspect many did. A true icon of the sport and of course a legend.
Who is the best badminton player ever? Is it Peter Gade?
That’s a difficult question to answer due to many factors including the era players played in and the influence they had on the overall sport. There’s little doubt Gade is a badminton legend and one of the best badminton players of all-time.
Many will regard Lin Dan and Lee Chong Wei as the best and it would hard to argue against either player. Both have played a massive part in the history of badminton.
The Current Best Badminton Players
Demark’s Viktor Axelsen and Anders Antonsen are two of the best along with Japan’s Kento Momota.
Whilst in the women’s game Tai Tzu Ying, Carolina Marin and Akane Yamaguchi are among the very best.
